During the same period, the import value and volume indices increased by 6.7 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively.
The Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) released its report on foreign trade indices for January yesterday. According to the report, agriculture and forestry saw the greatest increase in its export unit value index in the first month of the year, rising by 11.2 percent over January 2009. The sector, however, suffered a 3.5 percent year-on-year drop in its export unit volume index. During the same period, import unit value and volume indices for agriculture and forestry rose by 7.2 percent and 25.6 percent, respectively.
From January 2009 to 2010, the export unit value index for mining and manufacturing increased by 11.2 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively, while the index for fishery decreased by 18.4 percent. In January, the import unit value index for mining and manufacturing increased by 0.3 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year.
In the same month, the export volume index for mining increased by 34.8 percent, while the index for fishing and manufacturing decreased by 57.4 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. While the import volume index for mining decreased by 2.5 percent in January 2010 compared to January 2009, the index for manufacturing increased by 21.9 percent over the same time period.
