Çağlayan, who was on an official visit to London, met with the CEOs of 40 British companies yesterday including BP, Tesco, the Royal Bank of Scotland and GlaxoSmithKline. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, he said the production of light electric and small commercial vehicles in Turkey was also discussed at the meeting. Turkish coach, bus and commercial vehicle producer Temsa might establish a cooperation with British Modec, who was also represented at the meeting and is the world’s first manufacturer of purpose-built zero-emission vehicles.
Along with vehicles, batteries would also be produced in Turkey, the minister said, adding that he will bring the necessary incentives before the Economic Coordination Council to facilitate the manufacturing of electric vehicles in the country. Incentives will also be introduced to support production for exportation, Çağlayan stated, as Turkey seeks to become a center for electric automotive manufacturing.
