Pinnacle Academy makes Turkish community proud

18 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Pinnacle Academy, located in Oakton, Virginia, has again broken a record by winning 14 medals, including two gold, at the Virginia State Science Olympiad held over the weekend at The George Washington University.

Regardless of the fact that only two years have elapsed since the establishment of the Pinnacle Academy by the Turkish-American community in Virginia, the school continues to collect medals in state and national Olympiads. With its unprecedented success, the academy continues to make the Turkish-American community in the US proud.

With its impeccable record, Pinnacle Academy ranked in the top three schools, an honor that will make the school eligible for the state finals in Virginia on April 24. Pinnacle Academy students also won first place in the Future City competition on Jan. 23 of this year in the Washington, D.C., area and earned the chance to compete in the national Olympiads.

“We owe it to the teachers, who recognize no such term as ‘overtime’ and work non-stop with students. We also owe it to the parents, who never withdrew their support and we also owe our success to our skillful students,” Pinnacle Academy Principal Yusuf Çırak said. He also said the classes have a low student-to-teacher ratio and that this is among the factors behind the school’s success as it allows teachers to devote more time to each individual student.
