Gıyasettin K., who was imprisoned for three months after his wife, Aysun K., filed a domestic violence complaint against him earlier, was released from prison about a week ago. He drove his wife to a place near a river between two Bingöl villages where he cut her ears and nose off. He dropped off Aysun K., who at the time was seven months pregnant and the mother of one healthy and three disabled children, at the entrance of a hospital.“We can handle it together. He is my husband. We can make up,” Aysun K. reportedly said earlier this week through her relatives at Elazığ Fırat University Hospital’s department of plastic surgery, where she has been receiving treatment, refusing to talk to reporters.
Aysun K. gave birth to her fifth child at Elazığ Fırat University Hospital on Monday. The baby girl reportedly is not disabled. The children of the family have been taken into state custody. Bingöl Social Services Provincial Director Selahattin Bulut said the children are under state protection, noting that two of the children were found to be 90 percent disabled while one is 40 percent disabled. “The children will either be taken into state custody and sent to rehabilitation centers in other provinces, or they will be allowed to remain in their home under supervision if it is safe [following a report on the condition of their health],” he added.
Gıyasettin K. previously received psychological counseling, and he had been inflicting violence on his mother and sisters, too. He was earlier imprisoned for 40 days for assaulting a civil servant but was released after his father paid TL 12,600. He is currently under arrest for the assault on his wife. Gıyasettin K.’s mother said her son left the house to take his wife to the hospital and did not let her mother accompany them.
