THY to add 1,600 to staff this year

18 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Turkey’s national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) expects to add 1,000 flight attendants and 600 co-pilots to its crew by the end of this year, THY CEO Hamdi Topçu told reporters Wednesday in Manchester.

Topçu said THY, encouraged by currently increasing demand, expects to strengthen its crew with 1,600 new employees this year. Recalling that the carrier had earlier ordered 20 new aircraft, Topçu said the company would work harder to provide better quality service to its customers.

As for the company’s targets for 2023, the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic, Topçu said THY expected to become one of the leading carriers in the world.

“We are planning to increase our number of aircraft to 250 in 2023 and increase market share in the global arena,” he said. Noting that the İstanbul-based carrier flies to 120 international and 37 domestic destinations, Topçu said new destinations would be added this year.
