Trabzon to host World Cup qualifier

18 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Rugby World Cup qualifying comes to Turkey on Saturday when Georgia will play Russia at Trabzon’s Akçabaat Fatih Stadium.
Georgia is the official host but chose to move the match to Turkey for better weather conditions. This is the final round of qualifying, and both teams have already secured their place at next year’s World Cup in New Zealand. Georgia has qualified for the third consecutive time, while Russia has reached the tournament for the first time. The winner of Saturday’s match will qualify as Europe 1 and will join Argentina, England, Scotland and another qualifier in Group B in the World Cup. The loser will join Australia, Ireland, Italy and the US in Group C.
