Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) President Mehmet Ali Talat will meet with Turkish President Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu during a working visit to Ankara on Wednesday, KKTC Presidency spokesman Hasan Erçakıca said during a routine briefing.
Erçakıca spoke yesterday following the 70th meeting between Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias, during which the two leaders discussed a peaceful solution to the division of Cyprus. Stating that the talks with Turkish officials will focus heavily on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, Erçakıca also said the KKTC president will discuss issues related to Spain’s international initiatives on finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Noting that the officials will also discuss the issue of how to intensify talks following the April 18 presidential elections in the KKTC, Erçakıca said Erdoğan is currently in the UK and that Talat will discuss with Erdoğan ways in which the UK can contribute to a solution in Cyprus. The UK is one of the guarantors of the Cypriot state established in 1960. It controls 3 percent of Cypriot territory, using it as a military zone.
