Fourteen KCK suspects detained in Siirt

Fourteen people were detained yesterday as a result of an operation in the province of Siirt against the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), an organization that allegedly functions as the urban arm of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Among the suspects are Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) provincial head Sıdık Taş, the Human Rights Association’s (İHD) Siirt branch head, Vetha Aydın, provincial council member Belkıza Epözdemir and Tüm Bel-Sen branch head Ferit Epözdemir, and several administrators from various unions and associations.

Police said they seized KCK documents and illegal publications during raids on the suspects’ homes. At the end of 2009, 35 people were detained in several provinces of Turkey in simultaneous raids against the (KCK), among them elected officials.
