What if the Kurdish initiative works out?

17 March 2010 / AKIF BEKI RADIKAL,
According to Interior Minister Beşir Atalay, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Republican People’s Party (CHP) are soon going to be regretful. “They are going to have trouble explaining to people why they did not support a solution.”
What he’s trying to say is that resisting the solution will have political consequences. Until just recently, people were talking about how supporting a solution was going to have repercussions for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). What has changed? I guess hope has appeared on the horizon. Atalay’s interview with the Taraf daily on Sunday consolidated this view of mine. We’ve started talking about how people are going to regret opposing the solution. In the process of getting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to lay down arms, unexpected developments and several concrete results have come knocking at our door. We are going to start questioning what opposing the initiative will cost Turkey, not just the CHP and MHP.
