Turkey's consumer confidence rises in February

16 March 2010 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
Turkey's confidence index climbed by 3.3 percent to 81.85 in February, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index has a range from 0 to 200. If the index gets a value greater than 100, this implies that the rate of optimists is more than the rate of pessimists.

The monthly Consumer Tendency Survey, conducted jointly by Turkish Statistical Institute, or Turkstat, and the Central Bank, showed that household sentiment rose to 81.85 from 79.24 in February.

The increase in the index stemmed from the improvements in consumers' assessments concerning their purchasing power in the present and next period, general economic situation in the next period, job opportunities in the next period and buying time condition of durable goods in the present period, the Central Bank said in a statement.
