Up-and-coming filmmaker Anıl Dinç’s “Derin” (Deep) and “Duvar” (The Wall), another short film by Emre Karadaş and Deniz Oğuzsoy, were named winners in this year’s Akbank Short Film Festival, which ended its sixth year with an awards ceremony last Thursday in İstanbul.
The dramatic short film competition jury, composed of film critic Yeşim Tabak, filmmaker Özcan Alper, actress Özgü Namal, Sabancı University Associate Professor Hasan Bülent Kahraman and Akbank Art Center Director Derya Bigalı, picked Dinç’s “Derin” for the Best Dramatic Short Film award.

The festival’s documentary jury, made up of Marmara University department of fine arts professor Bülent Vardar, film directors Savaş Güvezne and Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun, documentary photographer Altan Bal and the Akbank Art Center’s Bigalı, awarded “Duvar” with the Best Documentary Short Film prize.

The winners were selected from among 30 entrants that ran in the festival’s competition section, for which 241 films were submitted.

This year’s festival, held under the motto “30 Second Interval,” ran March 1-11 at the Akbank Art Center in Beyoğlu and presented 90 short films from Turkey and abroad in various categories, including “International Films,” “Animation Shorts,” “From Short to Long” and “Experiences.”
