The seventh issue of the bilingual Turkish/English periodical, published by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s culture enterprise Kültür A.Ş., hit bookstores last week. The magazine, launched in July 2007 with an initial circulation of 10,000, is billed as the “signature of İstanbul.”The current issue offers a detailed look at how Refiğ, who died in October at the age of 75, depicted the sprawling city in his movies. The special section also includes anecdotes and thoughts about Refiğ from a number of prominent names from the Turkish movie industry and the director’s widow, Gülper Refiğ.
Other topics featured in this edition include a look at relations between Turkey and Japan on the occasion of the ongoing Japan Year 2010 in Turkey series of cultural events and a file on television personality and comedian Hamdi Alkan’s lesser known traits as an art collector.
