Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Şoray said she was proud to be the UNICEF Turkey goodwill ambassador, adding that all children in the world deserve to have a beautiful life. “I think that all issues can be solved by means of love,” Şoray was quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.
Şoray, one of the most popular actresses in Turkish film history, was born in İstanbul in 1945. She made her film debut in 1960 at the age of 15 with the film “Aşk Rüzgarı.” The film was quite successful.
In 1965, she was named one of Turkey’s four leading actresses. In 1964, she won her first prize when she received the Best Actress Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for the film “Acı Hayat.” She stared in “Vesikalı Yarim,” for which she was given the Best Actress Award for the second time at the Antalya film festival. She continued working with respectable directors in her later years.
Her most recognized movies of the 1970s include “Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım,” “Hazal” and “Sultan.” In 1987 she won her third Best Actress Award from the Antalya film festival for the movie “Hayallerim, Aşkım ve Sen.” She has stared in over 200 films.
