EU’s top enlargement official to visit Ankara

Stefan Füle, the European Union’s commissioner for enlargement and the European Neighborhood Policy, will arrive in Turkey this weekend for talks with Turkish officials on his first visit since assuming his post.

Füle, who officially began his work as the EU commissioner on Feb. 1, will meet with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and State Minister and Chief EU Negotiator Egemen Bağış during his visit on March 14-16, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry released late on Thursday. The EU commissioner will also have talks with members of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and EU Harmonization commissions.

The talks with Füle will focus on issues on agenda of the Turkish-EU relations and review the progress in Turkey-EU accession negotiations, according to the Foreign Ministry statement.

Füle is also expected to meet representatives of business circles and non-governmental organizations during his visit, which will also include İstanbul.
