Turkey’s industrial employment decreased by 6.8 percent in the last quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and was down 0.1 percent from the preceding quarter, the latest data have shown.
The Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) released the Industrial Labor Input Indices survey for the fourth quarter of 2009 yesterday. According to the report, the number of hours worked in industry declined by 5.3 percent in the last quarter of 2009, covering the months of October, November and December, compared to the same period of 2008, but increased 1.3 percent over the previous quarter. The report also revealed that gross wages in industry increased by 2 percent over the final quarter of 2008 and rose by 4.5 percent compared to the third quarter of last year.
