After a mine exploded killing one soldier and injuring three others on Monday in the southeastern province of Hakkari’s Şemdinli district, a further explosion happened in the same region on Tuesday, killing another soldier.
Following the mine blasts in Şemdinli, officials from the provincial gendarmerie command started a comprehensive investigation in the region.
In Monday’s explosion, Onur Ayaydın was killed and Minnet Batır, Cafer Ulu and Mustafa İnce were injured. The three injured soldiers were transferred to a military hospital in Hakkari. A funeral ceremony was held in Hakkari on Tuesday morning after which Ayaydın’s body was taken to İstanbul, his hometown. According to reports, the mines in both explosions are believed to have been planted by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
