Turkish-British commerce chamber elects new head, vice president

10 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
The Turkish-British Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TBCCI) elected its new board on Tuesday.

Following the chamber’s general assembly in London, former Westminster Mayor Dr. Harvey Marshall was elected the new head of TBCCI, while Ceyda Erem, a member of the chamber, was elected the new vice president.

Speaking at the event, Marshall said he expected growth in mutual trade between Turkey and the UK in the years to come. Regardless of a slight decline in mutual trade due to a global financial crisis last year, he said Turkey and the UK will maintain a strong economic partnership.

Erem said Turkey has managed to stand on its own two feet despite the global financial crisis in 2009 and that the country, which boasts a very large young population with much potential along with numerous investment opportunities, is attracting the attention of many UK investors.
