A few questions about women and workers

10 March 2010 / ÖZLEM ALBAYRAK YENİ ŞAFAK,
If we are to talk about March 8, International Women’s Day, it would be better if we start with women workers. In this picture, you will see women with or without a headscarf side by side.
Now that we have talked about women and workers and noted that there are women who work and organize among conservative groups and that there is some progress that conservative groups should make with respect to trade unionism, we can ask the following questions: You conservative types who are ostentatiously pious and who employ headscarved women and devout men for very low wages, why are you so distant to trade unions? While all of the businesses that are members of the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD) allow their workers to be members of trade unions, why is this rate so low for the businesses that are members of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD)? Why don’t the AK Party’s 400 municipalities allow their employees to be members of trade unions? Sorry, but is there anyone who can answer these questions?
