Consortium hails ratification of deal

9 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
The Nabucco Consortium hailed a decision by the Turkish Parliament to ratify a treaty that will enable the construction and operation of the Nabucco gas pipeline in Turkey.

All of the countries that signed the Intergovernmental Agreement in Ankara on July 13, 2009, have also ratified the treaty in their parliaments.

“The Intergovernmental Agreement lays down the political and legal foundation of the project. Turkey’s ratification of the agreement again gives a clear signal of intent to realize the project. This strong political backing for an infrastructure project is unique and is required,” said Werner Auli, chairman of the Nabuccvwo Steering Committee, on Sunday. Reinhard Mitschek, managing director of Nabucco Gas Pipeline GmbH, said the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement represented a significant breakthrough in the realization of the project.
