Through painstaking work by veteran teachers and students at the Adana Girls Technical Education Institute, replicas have been created of 300 articles of clothing worn by Ottoman women from both villages and cities in their homes, at bazaars, in the palace and during marriage ceremonies.İkbal Kalın, director of the Adana Girls Technical Education Institute, said that pieces displayed in the exhibition are not just ordinary products, but are artifacts reflecting the soul of the Ottoman era. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency on Sunday, Kalın stated that some of the articles of clothing took months to create, underlining that they devoted great attention to putting together the collection. “In the Ottoman era, women had a different style in which dark green, red and yellow were mainly dominant. In spite of the prevalence of Western-style clothing, many women have always admired to the clothes of women in Ottoman times, as these clothes reflect Turkey’s rich cultural heritage,” said Kalın.
In addition, an exhibition of the clothes titled “Her Dem Sultan,” or “Always Sultan,” will go on display on March 18 at İstanbul’s Seyhan Hotel.
The 300 articles of women’s clothing prepared to reflect the soul of the Ottoman era will be carefully preserved by the institute to pass Turkey’s traditions on to future generations.
