Taraf: When fans of Diyarbakırspor, which was hosting Bursaspor in Diyarbakır on Saturday, began throwing stones and foreign objects at Bursaspor athletes, the game was suspended, in the 17th minute, the daily reported in a front-page story yesterday. Officials, including Diyarbakırspor Club President Çetin Sümer and players for Diyarbakırspor, tried to prevent fans from throwing objects on to the field and at the Bursaspor athletes. After the suspension of the game, police used teargas to disperse Diyarbakırspor fans still engaging in disruptive behavior outside the stadium. In the first Bursaspor-Diyarbakırspor match in the first half of the Turkcell Super League, Bursaspor fans chanted slogans against Diyarbakır fans, saying “Outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party [PKK] get out.” This attempt to link Diyarbakırspor with the PKK led to outrage among Diyarbakırspor fans.

Vatan: “Gül is very tolerant, he even allows alcohol to be consumed on his plane,” the daily said in a front-page story yesterday, quoting remarks from Ahmet Sever, who has been President Abdullah Gül’s press agent for two-and-a-half years. “I have never witnessed Gül shouting even once. I make the list of journalists who will accompany Gül during his visits. He has so far never asked me to take somebody off of that list. He is very tolerant. He does not oppose alcohol on his plane. Regarding his tenure, whether it be five or seven years, he thinks it is a judicial situation and will comply with the decision of the judiciary,” Sever told the daily.

Yeni Şafak: “Parliament besieged by judiciary,” the daily said in the headline of its major story yesterday, quoting remarks from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who responded to Supreme Court of Appeals head Hasan Gerçeker, who recently complained that there were efforts in Turkey to besiege judiciary. “Both the legislative and executive branches in Turkey are under siege by the judiciary,” said Erdoğan, who spoke at the general assembly of the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) on Saturday.
