Sanko to invest $150 million in Bartın factory

6 March 2010 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Turkish conglomerate Sanko Holding is going to increase production capacity in a cement factory in the Black Sea province of Bartın with a $150 million investment, the company’s deputy chairman, Adil Konukoğlu, has said.
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency on Friday, Konukoğlu said they expected to update their Bartın cement factory with new infrastructure and had allocated some $150 million for the project. He said they planned to more than double production in the facility following the investment. Noting that the company has finalized its preliminary studies for the modernization of the factory, he said its annual cement production would increase to 800,000 tons from the current 300,000. Konukoğlu also said that upon completion of the project, the company expects to hire approximately 60 new employees. Recalling the adverse impact of the global financial crisis last year, Konukoğlu said they expected to see a recovery in exports starting from 2011. “The bleak atmosphere in the markets is slowly dispersing, and we are making preparations in this regard,” he said.
