One woman and eight men, reportedly all Turkish citizens, were arrested on Friday, and the preliminary charges for “association with a terrorist enterprise” were filed on Tuesday night. Preliminary charges in France allow police further time to investigate.
A French judicial official said seven of the suspects will remain in jail pending further investigation and two have been freed under judicial supervision, The Associated Press reported yesterday. Italian police issued 11 arrest warrants for 10 Turkish citizens and an Italian who allegedly supplied fighters to the PKK in late February. The French investigation is being conducted alongside the Italian probe and also involves police in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The investigation, carried out in Italy and France, discovered a “recruitment district” tasked with finding resources and people to fight against Turkish interests along the country’s border with Iraq, Italian police said in late February in a statement.
