Temperatures are expected to drop 8-10 degrees Celsius across the country, officials from the General Directorate of Meteorology announced on Wednesday, with most of Turkey, and particularly the northern and eastern regions, experiencing heavy rainfall this week.
Turkey’s northern provinces and Central Anatolia will be most affected by the heavy rain and lower temperatures. The Marmara region will experience a strong northeasterly wind this week. Some provinces in the region, including İstanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bursa, Bilecik, Yalova and Balıkesir, had precipitation yesterday morning. The Mediterranean region was also mostly cloudy and rainy on Wednesday. There were downpours in Hatay, Osmaniye and Kahramanmaraş early on Wednesday morning and high amounts of rainfall in the afternoon in the Central Anatolian provinces of Sivas, Çankırı and Yozgat.

In addition, the northeastern provinces of Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Giresun, Erzincan and Trabzon and the eastern provinces of Bingöl, Muş, Bitlis and Şırnak are expected to see heavy rainfall, bringing with it lower temperatures. Officials warned people to be careful of avalanches as the region still has snow. While the central province of Ankara will see snow until Friday, the rain left İstanbul early on Wednesday, but southern provinces, especially Adana, will have wet weather until Friday.
