Turkish PM: Turkey is freer than many western countries in freedom issue

22 February 2010 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, MADRID
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that Turkey was freer than many western countries in the aspect of freedoms.

Turkey is a comfortable country in a large scale regarding religious freedoms, added Erdoğan who replied questions in a conference "Turkey-Spain: Common Vision for Peace, Stability and Prosperity" hosted by Nueva Economia Forum in Madrid.

When asked whether an EU, which had borders with Iran, Iraq and Syria, would be safe, Erdoğan said that such an EU would be stronger as it would have a door to Middle East and Asia.

Regarding Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, Erdoğan said that the most important problem for Turkey was Upper Karabakh issue between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Erdoğan said that unfortunately Minsk Group (the US, Russia and France) could not reach a result in this issue for 20 years. He added that Minsk Group should bring a solution to Upper Karabakh issue and a fair solution to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Erdoğan added that when Upper Karabakh issue was solved, problems between Turkey and Armenia would be solved in a large scale.
