Anadolu Group plans to build 1,200-MW plant

20 February 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Anadolu Endüstri Holding A.Ş., a subsidiary of Turkish conglomerate Anadolu Group, expects to invest some 2 billion euros in Turkey’s energy market, the company’s CEO announced on Friday.

Speaking to reporters in İstanbul, Anadolu Endüstri Holding CEO Tuncay Özilhan said they expected to enter and expand their presence in the Turkish energy market with new investments worth 2 billion euros. The company has a major presence in the beverage industry.

Özilhan cited the “suitable market atmosphere” as the major factor that encouraged the company to enter the energy market. Noting that they expect to become one of the leading companies in the Turkish energy industry, he said they would increase their efforts to establish new partnerships with both local and foreign companies to that end. Özilhan said the company would initially concentrate on projects that they expect would result in high productivity. “We will monitor the latest developments in global energy markets closely,” he said.

The CEO said they would soon receive support in the form of loans in order to put their investment plans into action. Özilhan said they would provide details on where and when the investments will take place in the coming weeks. The only detail the company head revealed was that they would establish an energy plant with a 2,000 megawatt capacity “in the medium term.”
