Ersan Karaoğlu, the İstanbul news editor of Fox TV Turkey, drowned in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Thursday during a Turkish press tour.
Official sources confirmed that Karaoğlu drowned at Ras Muhammed National Park, near Sharm el-Sheikh. Karaoğlu, 32, was in Egypt as part of a press tour organized by a tourism agency. During a boat outing, Karaoğlu fell unconscious while swimming. Doctors were rushed to the area by sea ambulance but were unable to resuscitate Karaoğlu.

An autopsy will be performed at a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh to determine the cause of death. Following the autopsy, Karaoğlu’s remains will be repatriated. Karaoğlu was previously a journalist at the İhlas news agency and later an editor at the Doğan news agency. He was married and had a 2-year-old daughter. Karaoğlu had worked as a reporter in Afghanistan and northern Iraq.

The rest of the Turkish press corps on the tour cut their trip short and returned to İstanbul Thursday evening.
