İş Bankası posts 51 pct rise in profit

İş Bankası, Turkey’s largest private bank, increased its consolidated net profit by 51 percent over the preceding year in 2009, the bank announced on Tuesday.

İş Bankası’s net profit in 2009 totaled TL 2.75 billion. The bank’s consolidated assets reached TL 128.9 billion last year, a 16 percent rise over 2008. The bank also increased its equities to TL 15.3 billion, the highest amount for any bank in Turkey in 2009.

The number of İş Bankası branches increased by 54 in 2009 when compared to 2008 while the bank hired 1,549 new personnel in the same period. The total amount of loans extended by İş Bankası in 2009 rose by 2 percent compared to the year before while loans provided in Turkish lira enjoyed an even higher increase of 5 percent in the same period. The bank extended a total of TL 52.76 billion in loans last year.
