4th Turkish World Cinema Days begins

16 February 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
The fourth edition of Turkish World Cinema Days, held by İstanbul University’s Eurasia Institute, kicked off yesterday and will run through to Thursday.
The event, featuring movies from Turkic republics and communities such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Bashkortostan and the Republic of Tatarstan, is held in cooperation with the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s cultural enterprise Kültür A.Ş., the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) and the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) and with the support of İstanbul’s Beyoğlu Municipality.

Noting that the festival will feature award-winning movies from the participating countries and communities, Eurasia Institute Director Hayati Tüfekçioğlu told the Anatolia news agency that the four-day event aims to bring Turkic communities together around common cultural values and to share these cultural values through cinema.

The event program also includes panel discussions and exhibitions. The film screenings and other events will be held at various venues in İstanbul, including the Muammer Karaca Theater in the Beyoğlu district, the Kazlıçeşme Culture Center in the Zeytinburnu district and the İstanbul and İstanbul Aydın University campuses. Admission to the events is free of charge.
