The Revenues Administration (GİB) is currently devising a system to enable the payment of property taxes and various other types of fees by credit card on the administration’s Web site, the Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.
Talks are under way between banks and the GİB to expand the scope of the project, which mainly focuses on the online payment of relatively small amounts of taxes. Work related to property tax collection is being conducted by the Prime Ministry, which foresees the launch of the new system under the e-State Portal project, which was introduced in 2008 and makes it possible to complete a wide range of bureaucratic procedures for various state agencies online with minimal effort. Municipalities’ property data will also be added to the system, which will enable taxpayers to see the amount of tax they owe and to pay it with a credit card. The GİB, on the other hand, is working on enabling the online collection of miscellaneous charges. As fees are collected for a variety of reasons, ranging from deeds to passports, the system is in need of a serious substructure, officials stressed.
