In a bulletin released through the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) of the İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) on Thursday, THY released figures on its performance in the first month of the year, revealing that it had increased its number of passengers from 1.6 million in January 2009 to 2 million in the same month this year, a sizeable 26 percent increase.Passengers flying business class to international destinations also increased by 31.3 percent in January over a year ago, and flights arriving and departing from and to cities outside of Turkey increased by 46.2 percent -- indicating that THY was growing not only as an airline shuttling passengers to and from Turkish cities, but also increasing its presence abroad.
Occupancy rates are also on the rise, increasing by 3.2 percentage points to hit 68.6 percent in the first month of the year. Moreover, the available seat kilometers (ASK), a measure of an airline’s passenger carrying capacity, grew by 29.2 percent, from 3.8 billion to 4.9 billion. The airline showed increases in other areas as well: The number of flights increased by 21.4 percent to reach 18,195 in January over thesame period a year ago, and the amount of freight also increased by a 60.4 percent, to reach 21,299 tons in comparison to the same month of last year.
The airline’s stock, listed as THYAO listed on İMKB, increased by 1.98 percent to close at TL 5.15 per share at the end of the first session of trading yesterday.
