Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Education Minister Nimet Çubukçu and Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Çiçek attended a ceremony at the Anadolu Show Center to celebrate the opening of 127 schools in Ankara.

Speaking at the ceremony, Çubukçu said, “Today, every school we open and every investment we make takes us closer fulfilling all of our educational goals for the 100th year anniversary of Turkish Republic in 2023.”

Çubukçu further said that in addition to opening of 127 schools, the construction of another 103 schools as well as sport halls and school dormitories is still continuing in the Turkish capital.

The minister also noted that the education of disabled children is one of the most important priorities of the Education Ministry.

Ankara Governor Kemal Önal said the 127 schools with a total of 1,977 classrooms cost TL 277 million to build and donations by individuals and institutions also contributed to the cost of the construction.

Following the speeches, the opening of three schools took place via live broadcast to the schools. A symbolic ribbon was cut by Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) -- which constructed 20 of the schools -- President Erdoğan Bayraktar. Prime Minister Erdoğan gave plaques to those who contributed to the construction of the schools at the end of the ceremony.
