PERFORMING ARTS

  The Hayaka Artı company will stage their modern dance show “Yüzleşme” (Faceoff), with choreography by Geyvan McMillen, in two performances, on Thursday and Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Garajistanbul performing arts center. Ticket price: TL 20

  The İstanbul State Opera will stage “Don Quixote,” Ludwig Minkus’ ballet in three acts, on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Süreyya Opera House in Kadıköy.

  The Ankara State Opera will present Turkish composer Okan Demiriş’s “Murat IV,” an opera in three acts, on Wednesday; Tchaikovsky’s ballet classic in two acts, “Nutcracker,” on Thursday; and “Aida,” Verdi’s grand opera in four acts, on Saturday at the Ankara Opera House. Weekday performances start at 8 p.m., Saturday’s performance starts at 7 p.m.

  The Antalya State Opera will stage the Mozart classic “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” (The Abduction from the Seraglio) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Antalya’s Haşim İşcan Cultural Center. The company will present Puccini’s “Tosca” on Thursday at 8 p.m. and on Saturday at 4 p.m.

EXHIBITIONS

  “Light and Shadows in the Balkans,” a group exhibition of photographs by eight artists from the Balkans, wraps up on Tuesday at the Beyoğlu Municipality Art Gallery in İstanbul’s Beyoğlu district.

  “Air-Water-Earth-Fire and İstanbul,” a retrospective marking the 40th year in the career of Turkish artist Balkan Naci İslimyeli, can be seen until Feb. 27 at the Kibele Art Gallery at İstanbul’s İş Sanat.

  The Sakıp Sabancı Museum in İstanbul is home to the exhibition “Osmanlı Döneminde Venedik ve İstanbul: Nam-ı Diğer Aşk” (Venice and İstanbul During the Ottoman Era: Love, by Any Other Name) through Feb. 28. The museum is closed on Mondays.

  A retrospective of Paris-based Turkish artist Yüksel Arslan’s work is on view at the Santralİstanbul contemporary art center until March 21, featuring more than 500 pieces by the artist.

  “Türk Resim Sanatının Bir Asırlık Öyküsü II” (A Centennial Tale of Turkish Painting), a selection of paintings by 20th century Turkish artists from the private collection of Ahu and Can Has, is on display until April 30 at the Rezan Has Museum in İstanbul’s Cibali quarter. Visiting hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. every day.

  The İstanbul Museum of Modern Art’s photography gallery hosts an international photography exhibition titled “Time Within Us” until May 16, featuring the work of 15 photographers from Turkey, Greece and Russia. The museum is closed on Mondays.

FILM SCREENINGS

  The İstanbul Modern movie theater is presenting a film program titled “Love at 0°C” until Feb. 21, featuring five films that tell of offbeat love stories set in northern climates. Admission is free of charge for museum visitors.

  Taksim Sahne, the movie theater of the Atilla İlhan Cultural Center in Beyoğlu, is opening today with a screening of films by Derviş Zaim, starting at noon. The weekly film program will also feature a discussion with the filmmaker at 8:30 p.m., following the screenings. Taksim Sahne is located on Meşrutiyet Cad. No: 3, across from Galatasaray High School.

  The Goethe Institut in İstanbul is offering eight silent films by 20th century German filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch every Friday at 7 p.m. in a weekly program that runs through March. Films are shown with subtitles in both German and Turkish. Admission is free of charge.
