Deputy Parliament Speaker Güldal Mumcu, who was presiding over the parliamentary session when the fistfight between members of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) occurred, along with other deputy parliament speakers Sadık Yakut, Nevzat Pakdil and Meral Akşener have been invited to the dinner. Parliamentary group deputy chairmen will represent their party groups at the dinner.
The incident will be discussed during the dinner. Making a statement after the incident, Şahin called on everyone to exercise common sense and said he would call the deputies to a meeting.
On Tuesday Osman Durmuş -- a deputy from the MHP -- drew the indignation of AK Party deputies when he made fun of news reports that the Gülhane Military Academy of Medicine (GATA) had refused to allow Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife permission to enter the hospital and visit actor Nejat Uygur in 2007. Emine Erdoğan was hoping to pay a get-well visit to Uygur but was told that she would not be allowed in to the hospital because she wears a headscarf. The MHP's Durmuş angered AK Party deputies when he said: “How dare you not allow the wife of a prime minister, who is accepted as a prophet, to enter GATA? Who do you think you are?” AK Party deputy group chairman Bekir Bozdağ said it was tactless to call the prime minister a “prophet.” The incident led to a brawl between AK Party and MHP deputies.
