Aliye Sultan Şen, who went missing after leaving home to buy candy on Monday, was found dead early Wednesday in a forest in the southeastern province of Gaziantep. M.K., her mother’s stepbrother, later confessed that he strangled his niece because he was angry at his stepsister. The girl’s mother, Fatma Şen, told police that M.K. had told her husband he would kill their daughter one month ago but they thought it was a joke, the daily reported.

The 32 people, including several children, waited for help in temperatures of minus 3 degrees Celsius. They were rescued by teams from the gendarmerie and civil defense with the help of ropes. One of those stranded on the chairlift, 12-year-old Efe Demirbaş, said they were afraid since rescue teams took so long to save them. “We thought we would freeze to death,” he said.
