A 4-year-old girl who went missing after leaving home to buy candy on Monday was found dead early Wednesday in a forest in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.
Having launched a widespread search for Aliye Sultan Şen, the Gaziantep police interrogated every member of her family. Officers became suspicious when 20-year-old M.K., the stepbrother of the girl’s mother, gave contradictory answers to their questions during questioning. M.K. eventually confessed that he strangled his niece because he was angry at his stepsister. He later showed police where he had dumped the girl’s body in the forest.Aliye’s body was taken to Avukat Cengiz Gökçek Hospital for an autopsy.
Stating that the police first hid M.K.’s testimony from them, Aliye’s mother, Fatma Şen, said her stepmother was at their house until the girl’s body was found. “They ran away as soon as they heard about the incident. I don’t know where they went,” she said.
