Unification of our justice systems

4 February 2010 / AKİF BEKİ RADİKAL,
Can the justice system be independent, objective and democratic all at the same time? Of course it can, and actually, this is precisely what it should be.
If, however, you split your justice system into two parts -- “military and civilian” -- it can never achieve the independence, objectivity and democracy mentioned above. The scales of justice can handle every burden presented to it, just not this double-heading of “military-civilian.” The arena dominated by civilian justice in Turkey has been narrowed by the military justice system. We must completely rescue ourselves from this seemingly endless round of developments between our military and civilian justice systems.
