Gül’s appointment as the president of the TMSF was published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday. Abdullah Demiröz became the new vice president, and Nevzat Mazı and Mukim Öztekin were appointed board members.
Born in Erzurum in 1967, Gül graduated from the political science faculty at Ankara University in 1988. His started his carrier at Halk Bankası as an assistant auditor and became a Finance Ministry inspector in 1993. Gül was appointed as the vice president of the TMSF in 2004. Ertürk had been running the fund since 2004, when it was made independent from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). During his two consecutive terms, he had been at the center of controversy and endless debate as the TMSF implemented a tough policy against the former owners of seized companies and banks. The candidates for the post were BDDK Vice President Ahmet Şirin, Capital Markets Board (SPK) Vice President Abdülkerim Emek and TMSF board member Yüksel Görgeç.
