The Turkish Red Crescent Society (Kızılay) is continuing its aid services in Haiti, which was hit by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake on Jan. 12, with a tent city it set up in the quake-stricken capital of Port-au-Prince.
All the needs of almost 1,000 people left homeless by the quake who are currently living in the 156 tents provided by Kızılay are being met by the society. Following the initial food aid, Kızılay distributed blankets, cleaning supplies and kitchen equipment.

The society is also providing psychosocial support services for the people. Psychologist Uğur Demirbaş, who is a member of the Kızılay team in Haiti, is working with those who have been most affected by the deadly earthquake, especially children. Singing songs and playing games with the children, Demirbaş said such activities are the first steps in psychosocial support and they will undertake extensive support programs for all the victims in the long term.
