“I should have never gotten into that marriage. I killed my career. I made a show of myself,” Toprak said in an interview with the Sabah daily.Toprak tied the knot with Tağızade on July 18 of last year at one of the businessman’s summer houses in Kuşadası. Toprak’s new wife, Tağızade, was required to present the authorities written permission from her parents as she is not legally allowed to wed without permission until the age of 18.
The marriage was a complete surprise to Toprak’s family, especially to his ex-wife, Ayşe Toprak, the mother of 10 of his 12 children. Toprak experienced a dramatic blow to his business in August when the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) seized 20 of the businessman’s companies.
Toprak thinks his current condition is because he caused his ex-wife suffering. “I made Ayşe Hanım worry a lot. I left her alone with our 11 children. She brought up all of them properly. I hurt her a lot,” he said.
As for whether he is happy with his current wife, Toprak said he is not. “She [Tağızade] is also unhappy. She is influenced by her mother. They say: ‘We chose you because you had planes, helicopters and yachts. They are all gone. You are worse than us, now.’ She [Tağızade] also said that had she known all this would happen [the TMSF seizure], she would not have married me,” Toprak said.
