The Lycian Challenge, an adventure competition organized annually by the Lycian Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Club in Fethiye, is seeking to become more international this year.
Regarded as the biggest adventure competition in Turkey, Lycian Challenge 2010 is expected to attract great attention. Approximately 40 teams from Turkey and around the world are expected to register for Lycian Challenge 2010, which will take place between May 4 and 9 of this year.

Emre Acar, the head of the Lycian Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Club, pointed out that Lycian Challenge 2010 will be a well-organized event introducing the natural beauties of Turkey to the world. Registration for Lycian Challenge 2010 will start next week.

A meeting was held in Muğla on Monday by Bora Borçin, the Muğla representative of the Turkey Mountain Climbing Federation, to discuss the second annual Lycian Challenge. Deputy governors Recep Yüksel and Ahmet Ali Barış, Youth and Sports General Manager Burhaneddin Hacıcaferoğlu and Lycia Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Club officials were in attendance at the meeting. Borçin said this year they are expecting more international teams than last year.

“This second Lycian Challenge will be more entertaining. Teams will not use any vehicles in the competition. They will use mountain bikes, run on the sand, climb mountains and do many exercises to test both their physical and mental stamina. We believe that the Lycian Challenge will attract many people,” Borçin noted.

Global Positioning System (GPS) devices sponsored by Globalstar will be used in this year’s competition for the first time. “Via GPS, we will have an advantage in monitoring the teams competing in the Lycian Challenge. In case of any emergency, teams can easily report their situation to the competition officials. In addition to GPS, rescue teams will be available for the competition. This means we will have taken all possible safety measures for individuals competing on their teams. People will also have the opportunity to follow LC 2010 through the GPS monitoring systems. There will be free concerts and mini adventure challenges for spectators coming to Fethiye for LC 2010,” Acar stated.

Lycian Challenge 2010 is expected to attract many competitors from across Turkey.
