As part of a delegation with Khuzestan provincial mayor Seyed Jafer Hijazi and Iranian businessmen, Hosseinpour spoke to reporters in Bursa on Monday regarding trade goals between the two nations. Answering a question on whether Iran will bring a Samand factory to Turkey, Hosseinpour noted: “Experts are currently working on this issue, but we think that Bursa has the necessary infrastructure for an automobile factory. We as the embassy recommended this to the government and are trying to convince the government to realize this. Our Samand automobiles have attracted great interest in Turkey, and we hope to expand on this interest.”
Hosseinpour, noting that he has been travelling to many provinces in Turkey with different Iranian mayors, said that they have a goal of $20 billion in trade between the two nations, and that to reach this goal better relationships need to be forged between Iranian and Turkish provinces.
“To reach this goal we need to form cooperative agreements. There are many similarities between the two nations, and we’ve had peace between us for the last 400 years. We should take advantage of that for our people. European nations’ trade volumes are mostly with their neighbors, even though they don’t have as many similarities as we do. I hope we can reach this goal in the near future,” said Hosseinpour.
