Active online banking users increase by 780,000 in Q4

The total number of active online banking customers grew by 780,000 in the last quarter of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008 and increased by 195,000 over the previous quarter.

According to data compiled by the Turkish Banks Association (TBB) from 25 banks providing Internet banking services to their customers, the total number of registered retail customers who logged in at least once had reached 11.96 million as of December 2009, while 7.01 million logged in at least once in a one-year period, the report stated.

In the October-December period of 2009, of the 5.3 million active retail customers, 45 percent of them used online banking services in the last quarter.

The total number of registered commercial customers that logged in at least once was 1.4 million as of December 2009. Of this figure, 606,000 used online banking services during the last quarter of 2009, accounting for 43 percent of total commercial customers.
