According to information from the ministry on the Tax Audit Program, the Revenues Administration (GİB) will assign inspectors this year to audit the tax records of pharmaceutical companies in Turkey. The inspectors will analyze producers and importers of medicine and other actors in the sector.
In addition to this, pharmacists, doctors, lawyers and firms with potentially high turnover will also be inspected in an effort to curb tax fraud. Pharmacies, which were in the spotlight when the government decreased prices on many pharmaceutical items last year, will also be inspected in terms of the amount of money they receive from the government for medicinal purchases covered under social security plans and the profit margins on medicine sold. Doctors will also be included in this year’s Tax Audit Program.
Lawyers will be inspected through records the Justice Ministry keeps on its National Judiciary Information System (UYAP), which the Ministry of Finance will use to analyze the activities of lawyers in order to control the underpayment of taxes. Tax declarations by lawyers will also be cross-checked with the Ministry’s Tax Information Center, and any inconsistencies will lead to individual investigations.
