Investments in energy to rise by 20 percent in 2010

The energy sector will benefit from a 20 percent increase in investments over last year, to reach a total of TL 3.38 billion, the Anatolia news agency reported on Monday.

According to the 2010 investment program, energy institutions will invest nearly TL 3.4 billion in 127 projects this year. Of this amount, TL 3.3 billion will be allocated to projects that have already started while TL 45.2 million will be assigned to new projects and TL 28.9 million to surveying.

The State Waterworks Authority (DSİ) will make the lion’s share of investments. It will carry out 40 projects this year, investing TL 1.36 billion, some 16.8 percent more than last year. The DSİ will be followed by the Electricity Generation Holding Company (EÜAŞ), which will carry out projects worth TL 900 million this year, representing an increase of 41.8 percent over 2009. The Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ) will allocate TL 550 million to investments, 22.2 percent more than last year.

The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, on the other hand, will invest TL 1.93 million in the sector this year, representing a 1.1 percent decrease compared to 2009. The Turkish Electricity Distribution Company (TEDAŞ) and the Ankara Natural Gas Production Company (ADÜAŞ) will invest TL 550 million and TL 40,000, respectively, in the energy sector this year, the same amounts as last year.
