The co-owner of a hotel in Haiti’s capital has been rescued from the wreckage of the building more than 100 hours after an earthquake tore apart the city.
Nadine Cardoso’s husband said early Sunday morning that his 62-year-old wife was being treated by doctors for dehydration but otherwise unharmed. Reinhard Riedl (REYE’-dil) planned to ride with his wife to a hospital in Port-au-Prince. Rescuers have been working for days at the luxury Montana Hotel, where untold dozens are missing. They freed three survivors on Saturday, and Riedl gained new hope when his son heard Cardoso’s voice. Experts say that after 72 hours, hopes dim for people trapped without food and water. Still, rescuers from different countries continue to search for survivors.
