Former mayoral candidate’s car bombed
15 January 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
A bomb exploded early on Thursday under a car belonging to Fahri Şakar, who ran in the most recent local elections as the Justice and Development Party’s (AK Party) mayoral candidate for the Şemdinli district of the southeastern province of Hakkari.
Şakar’s car was parked in front of his house when the bomb went off. Those responsible for planting the bomb have not yet been found. The blast, which left no casualties, seriously damaged the car and shattered the windows of nearby buildings. Hakkari police have launched an investigation into the incident.
