Fernand Schmitz, a Belgian lawyer representing the family of one of Turkey’s most powerful business empires, has announced that the suspected assassin of Özdemir Sabancı will stand trial in a Belgian high criminal court this year for the crimes she committed in Turkey.
Fehriye Erdal, a member of the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C), is accused of assassinating Sabancı, a second-generation member of the Sabancı business group and owner of the country’s second-largest industrial and financial conglomerate.
According to Schmitz, Erdal is expected to be tried by public jury this year for crimes she committed in Turkey, probably in absentia.
