Erdoğan awarded King Faisal prize

13 January 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan won the 2010 King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) on Monday for service to Islam.

KFIP Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Othaimeen announced that Erdoğan’s achievements have set an example of judicious leadership in the Islamic world. According to the secretary-general, the Turkish prime minister has forged a major campaign that placed Turkey among the world’s leading countries, economically and industrially.

“His unyielding position on various Islamic and global issues, particularly the rights of the Palestinian people, has gained him the respect and admiration of the entire Islamic world and the international community at large,” he added.

During a panel discussion on Gaza at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Prime Minister Erdoğan walked off the stage after a heated exchange with Israeli President Shimon Peres. Erdoğan’s walkout was applauded by many Muslim countries.
