Turkish industry and trade minister said Tuesday that recent figures showed that Turkish economy had achieved an upward trend for recovery.

According to figures released earlier in the day, capacity utilization in Turkey's manufacturing industry rose to 69.7 percent in December 2009, marking a 5 points increase when compared to the same month of 2008.

Nihat Ergün told an interview with private broadcaster NTV that analyses of recent figures for capacity utilization, industrial output, exports and growth rates indicated an upward trend in Turkish economy since March 2009.

Turkey saw its highest capacity utilization rate in June 2007 with 83.5 percent. The lowest level was 63.8 percent in February 2009.

"We can observe an upward trend since then though it was fluctuating," Ergün said.

"Although Turkey has lost bit of its production and exporting ability, however preserved export markets; Turkey has started to recover its losses considering all figures together," he said.

He added that government was expecting higher figures for capacity utilization and industrial production in the coming months.
